That's Dave O'Brien (pictured right). As you can see, Dave is leaning against the bus up at the 76 terminus in Chapelizod. Dave
is a very good photographer. He is also involved with aviation photography and some of his work can be seen at www.myaviation.net. There is a link to the aviation website on the "links" page on this site.
Driver Syl Poleon ( pictured left) lives with his beautiful wife ( I should know...I've
seen her ) in Newbridge, Co Kildare. Syl has been working with Dublin Bus for 12 years now ( 2007) and is following in
his father's footsteps as an employee of Dublin Bus (C.I.E.). Syl's father, Syl Snr. was with the company in the 60's and
70's but now has his own business. He does weddings, funerals, and almost anything else you need a coach for. See SYL POLEON
in the phonebook. (What am I plugging his business for... Sure he's our competitor?)
Back to Syl Jnr. As an avid supporter of the Transport Museum in Howth, Syl is involved with
the restoration and preservation of C.I.E. buses old and not so old. The pre-runner to Luas was the tram and some old trams
can be seen at the Transport Museum. The Museum is well worth a visit for anyone interested in buses or trams. Syl enjoys
working for Dublin Bus and his other interests include listening to music of all types.
Syl's uncle Christy emigrated to Palmer, Illinois, U.S.A. some 40 years ago. Unfortunately,
Christy died not too long ago. May he rest in peace. As a matter of interest, Christy's son Tyrone set up his own trucking
business several years ago in Palmer so if you are ever in the States in Chicago or Palmer, look out for Poleon Trucking.
| Over 100 years service between the Mitchell bros. |
|
|
Better than the two 'Eastenders' Mitchell Brothers, Dublin Bus has its
own Mitchell Brothers. Unfortunately since the beginning of 2008 Martin and Peter have retired, but Liam is still going strong.
Pictured in the photograph (left) are, from left to right, Martin, Peter, and Liam Mitchell.
Martin, was 38 years with Dublin Bus (Dublin City Services as it was
known before 1987). Peter, a bit less at 35 years with Dublin Bus. Last but not least is Liam, who is based at Conyngham Road
Depot and who has 37 years service with Dublin Bus.
So in 2007 the Mitchell Brothers had over 110 years service with Dublin
Bus between them. Now is that not some sort of record? Anybody got the telephone number of the Guinness Book of Records? We
in Dublin Bus are certainly proud to have had the Brothers working with us. So well done to the lads and congratulations for
showing fantastic loyalty to one company.
