Meeting more of the staff...
The picture below show Inspector Christy Freeman busy at work
controlling the various bus routes operating out of Conyngham Road garage. Christy is one of the many Inspectors who
operate the computerised bus control system in place in the depot. The computerised system allows the Inspectors to identify
the bus driver and route that requires their attention when the driver needs assistance or advice. The system also allows
the Inspectors to identify the whereabouts of buses through a GPS navigation system. The NEW system presently being installed (October 2009) will operate in conjunction with the RTPI (REAL TIME PASSENGER
INFORMATION) screens which will be in operation all over Dublin. It's a slow process but one well worth waiting for as you
will also be able to text for information from your home and the return text message will give you the time the next bus is
due at YOUR bus stop. Please note that from November 29th 2009, Christy , ( see photo below), will no longer be operating
as a controller from Conyngham Road Depot as he will be starting a new position with Dublin Bus in "THE SQUARE"
Tallaght. All the controllers from Conyngham Road and the other Dublin Bus Depots will be transferring to Broadstone Dublin
Bus Central Control on the same date and we give them our best wishes. These changes are taking place so as to centralise
the control of all Dublin Bus routes from a Central Hub and when the new Real Time Passenger Information Technology is up
and running, as mentioned above, passengers will be kept up-to-date with REAL TIME information. Also, the next time you look
up Dublin with Google Earth or Google Maps you will see where all the Dublin Bus bus-stops are located and when you
"highlight" a bus-stop on the map it will tell you which buses go along that route. I know things are not perfect
but I can reassure you that we are working our hardest to make available all the information that our customers need to plan
their journeys. Integrated ticketing that will allow you to use several different modes of public transport with the ONE ticket
is on the way too. About time I hear you say, so we apologise in advance for the delay, but again technology appears to be
frustratingly slow to upgrade, however everyone at Dublin Bus is working hard to make it a reality sooner rather than later.
Thanks for standing by us in these difficult times for the Country and please keep in touch to let us know what you think,
good and bad. We DO take what our customers say even though some people may say we don't. We now play an integral part in
many Dublin communities and we take our role in these communities very seriously. Thanks for your support.

In November 2009 Bus Control Inspectors wil operate
from a Central Control Unit at Broadstone Dublin Bus Garage. New state of the art facilities in bus control (as mentioned
above) will give the Inspectors more accurate information so as to readjust the buses as necessary during heavy traffic, bad
weather conditions and so on. The ultimate aim, of course, is to improve our customer services. It's our number one priority
after safety. We will also have Dublin City Council traffic control connected to our system so as they can amend traffic conditions
at lights etc., so as to give our buses a more flowing journey through the city and help reduce waiting times for passengers
and provide the more efficient service we aim to achieve. For more information on this and other areas of our bus services
please also visit the official Dublin Bus website at www.dublinbus.ie
