INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE FAMILY 04. Moorefield Environment Group
and St. Peter Apostle Church received funding of €1,200-00 in November 2004. The funding has partly been used for
a Senior Citizens workshop, which took place on December 10th 2004. The workshop was very successful in looking at the
needs of the elderly in North Clondlakin and within our estates. The Sub-Group will issue a report on the findings after
the last workshop is completed. Thank you to all the volunteers who have again worked extremely hard on this project.
The funding is also being used to address another project to help parents,
grandparents, and guardians to understand sexuality among our children, garndchildren etc. It is planned sometime in late
April 2005 and is presently being organised by the group. The plan is for an informal talk shop on how we can relate to our
young on matters that concern us as carers. We will be engaging trained personnel, and hopefully an expert in this field
of work. If you think this is for you, or you need to catch up on what your children are learning, and more importantly, not
being taught, then show your interest to a group member as places will be limited in this pilot project. A recent survey
by IrishHealth.com gave us cause for real concern and we as carers need the facts and the tools if we want what's best for
our children and grandchildren.

REFURBISHMENTS UPDATE. By March all
the central heating installation was completed as well as the completion of the cavity wall and home insulation. Other works
in progress include window replacement, electrical upgrading, kitchen upgrading (as necessary), and painting and minor decoration
as required. Tenants have also had their outer sheds and side gates replaced as required. Fireplaces have been upgraded as required
too. South Dublin County Council (SDCC) refurbishment team and the Moorefield (MEG) team have been working closely to ensure
that tenants issues have been addressed as speedily as possible. If you are a tenant experiencing a problem you
can contact SDCC Liaison Officer Allyson Rooney @ 4149182 or contact a MEG committee member.
Department of Environment
Funding: The DOE also included funding for estate enhancement along with funding awarded to Moorefield Estate
under the Anti-Drug strategy (1998). The SDCC engaged a consultant architect to draw up a plan to enhance the whole estate.
The MEG have also engaged in public meetings, facilitated public consultations, gave presentations of residents submissions
and petitions, which came from both individual and groups of residents.

INFILL HOUSING UPDATE The new infill houses presently being built
in our estate are due for completion in June 2005. 48 dwellings will become available. MEG organised public meetings with
the Council Architect and SDCC personnel. Our local elected representatives were also present. The group also organised that
the proposed housing plan was on display prior to the meeting. There was a good turnout of residents, who presented many concerns
and observations.
In line with the planning process, MEG set about raising all concerns and observations in
a written submission to SDCC. The Council sent an acknowledgement noting all the residents concerns and observations, which
included; Childrens Safety, Road Calming, Residents Walls, Naming of Roads, and having too many outlets for traffic into existing
estate. The MEG have proposed that all Council Departments meet around the table to work collectively and treat all issues
relating to Moorefield Estate and the 'infill' housing in a proper holistic way.
NOTE: Residents wishing to downsize from the Estate
to the 'infill' houses need to be on the transfer list and should contact the Council's Housing Allocations Department.

COLLINSTOWN PUBLIC PARK Moorefield Environmental Group lead the, "If I had a
Park" project. In 1998 this project was supported by NCCDP and Rowlagh Residents. There was great enthusiasm at the time with
all residents groups coming on board doing door-to-door surveys. Children from the three Primary Schools wrote essays and
the younger children did their art work. The local voluntary community sector and local GP's gave letters of support. We knew
that the people of North Clondalkin needed a local park with Ranger facilities. So began the project. The project was partially
successful and eventually the park was upgraded to a 'local park' following both oral and written submissions. Since that
time the park has seen improvements and the upgraded project was again submitted to RAPID as an identified need for the community.
Some things are beginning to happen!!! So visit your local park and remember, if you are drinking and eating in the park,
please bin your rubbish and don't give reasons for the park not to be developed.

DUBLIN BUS AND THE COMMUNITY For
the past three years Dublin Bus - Conyngham Road, have provided transport for the Moorefield Environment Group (MEG)
to take the young people of Moorefield on their annual trip. The young people, by the way, have been a credit to themselves
and their families. Their conduct on the bus to the Botanic Gardens and then onto WaterWorld and back home was impeccable.
MEG have written to Dublin Bus thanking them for
such a wonderful and memorable day. This fantastic event could not have happened for so many boys and girls without the support
of Dublin Bus. We, at MEG, will be doing our best to organise something again this year for the children and are looking
forward to working again with Dublin Bus.
How can we support Dublin Bus in the community? By using their services would be a first step
I know! But what we are aiming for here is to ask people to respect the buses and the drivers. Remember, most drivers on our
routes are regulars, so get to know them and let them get to know our communty.
Behave on the bus as you would in a car. Don't distract the driver or have the driver
stopping the bus because you or your friends are unruly. Driving the bus safely is very important for all, so shouting
and screaming only distracts the drivers attention. In our busy traffic the driver has to concentrate even more hard. Remember,
your life and the lives of others are in his or her hands. Dublin Bus supports our community so let us work as a partnership
for the benefit of the community and Dublin Bus.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR OLDER PEOPLE MEG this year were delighted to
help over 30 Senior Citizens secure approximately 83 security items. These included personal monitors, security lights, smoke
alarms, and door & window locks. MEG have already received many calls from the recipients to thank us for our help. Our
support for our Senior Citizens has given them, and their families and neighbours, great solace.
The Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs funded this project
to the tune of €10,000.00 through the National Lottery Funds. Everyone agreed that this was a true lottery winner and
a truly worthwhile venture.
If you know a Senior
Citizen that is in need of any help, as above, please contact one of the committee of MEG. A special word of thanks and an
acknowledgement of the tremendous work of TASK Community Care, who monitor the Senior Citizens alarms 24 hours a day
- 365 days a year, to ensure their emergency needs are well looked after.
A final thank you to the MEG sub-group who have given their time and skills voluntarily
in the interests of others. THE AGED ARE AS MUCH NEED AS THE YOUNG...THEY
KNOW THINGS WE'VE YET TO LEARN.

SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL TIDY DISTRICTS 2005 Many residents of Moorefield, too many to mention individually,(but everyone
knows who they are), helped last year to make their Estate a place to be proud to bring their friends, visitors etc,.
Many young people took part in clean up's, grass cutting, flower planting, painting walls and, most importantly, keeping their
area clean by not littering in the first place. Residents from different parts
of the Estate made up their own small groups to create their own floral displays, with the kind support of the SDCC 'Estate
Management and Parks' Department. St. Peter Apostle again supported the children by allowing them plant in the grounds of
the Church. Overall, the Estate received 464 points out of a possible 500 points. Thank you to Gareth Foley, Layla Byrne and
Lauren McGee who were such great ambassadors for the youth of Moorefield and were nominated to represent their Estate in the
'Anti-Litter' Awards.

NON COLLECTION OF REFUSE BINS.
Residents in the larger part of the estate contacted MEG saying their bins had not been collected, even though the Oxigen
Company were in the estate. This occured on the 18th February and again the following week. The MEG were informed that a worker was threatened and in the interest of safety the crew withdrew from the estate. After MEG contacted
the Council Environmental Services and our local Councillors, the collections were made on the respective Fridays. The MEG
also wrote to the ES Department and copied the letter to our local Councillors, outlining that residents should not have to
pay for the action of an individual. Also,we do not condone any alleged threats to workers going about their daily work. The MEG
received correspondence stating that the ES Department now have the matter in hand. Councillors Dowd and Gilligan have informed
MEG that a submission made to SDCC for more bin tags for waiver recipients was not successful. Meanwhile, Deputy John
Curran is dealing with the unsafe conditions at the building development at Harelawn. Workers at the site have compalined
about damage to their cars. Also, there is no emergency footpath for pedestrians, especially the very young, the aged and
the infirm. Hazardous double parking at the site is only compounding the problem.
